Kara Prior, ceramic artist — Kara Pryor is a ceramic artist and teacher whose playful, colour-rich sculptures celebrate animals, storytelling and fantasy. Her distinctive practice has developed through more than three decades of working with clay.
Working primarily with handbuilding techniques, Kara brings her sculptures to life with vibrant layers of underglaze. Her intuitive and energetic approach allows her to create freely and quickly—often handbuilding a bird sculpture in just a few hours.
Kara began her ceramics journey at a local pottery studio following the birth of her daughter, balancing her creative practice with motherhood and part-time work. In 2010, she returned to formal study at Northern Beaches TAFE, completing Certificates III and IV, a Diploma and an Advanced Diploma in Ceramics.
Kara has exhibited at numerous galleries, including Kerrie Lowe Gallery, LNL Gallery and Ewart Gallery. She was a finalist in the Northern Beaches Art Prize in both 2024 and 2025. In 2025, she was also selected as a finalist in the Fisher’s Ghost Art Award and the Willoughby Art Prize, and exhibited in Animalia at Q Gallery in Canberra. In 2026, Kara was again selected as a finalist in the Fisher’s Ghost Art Award.
