Alyson Hayes

Alyson Hayes - Artist

After completing a Bachelor of Design at the College of Fine Arts (now UNSW Art and Design), Alyson traveled around Australia exploring nature, inspired by its patterns, intricacies and forms. While in Perth she studied with Angela Mellor whose paper clay technique was transformative for her work.

Working from her home studio in Sydney, Alyson is surrounded by bushland which continues to inspire her art. Alyson uses a combination of hand-building and slip-casting techniques, often combining natural objects with her ceramic forms. Once lit, the translucency of the thinly cast Bone China light sculptures is revealed, animating intricate textures. Little memories and imprints uniquely interpreted by the viewer.

Alyson believes that Nature is the ultimate designer, creating objects that are not a direct copy of any one existing form, but rather a coalescence of nature.
