Sumi-E Reflections

An Exhibition celebrating Australian & Japanese cultures, united through the timeless art of Sumi-e.

Sumi-e is the art of Japanese ink painting. It is a centuries old practice steeped in Zen philosophy, where simple brushstrokes capture the spirit of a subject rather than its outward appearance. SUMI-E REFLECTIONS is an exhibition showcasing four Sydney based artists whose brushwork channels the quiet power and stark beauty of the tradition. With reverence, spontaneity and playful humour their work becomes part of an ongoing dialogue across cultures and centuries between Japan and Australia. Whether you are new to sumi-e or a seasoned admirer, this exhibition offers something for everyone. Through live demonstrations and teaching sessions, visitors are invited to engage directly with this timeless practice... a chance to slow down, explore and enjoy!
“Sumi-e Reflections” features artists Ken Lamb, Tomoko Oka, Vitorria Vieceli and Nick O’Sullivan, come and experience these artworks in an environment built to showcase the ancient art of sumi-e.
