Standing Strong

"Lost and Found" is an abstract artwork that embodies the journey of rediscovering parts of myself thought to be lost, a process which has been facilitated by painting and creative expression. Through colorful base layers I express a childlike love of colours and joy in play. The flowing, translucent strokes and upper layers are expressive and convey a movement that comes from a background as a dancer and performer. These upper layers are often organically created, as I love watering down my paints and allowing them to go where they please. This piece is not just a reflection but an integral part of maintaining my mental well-being. I began painting in response to a numbness that had arisen from the demands of Motherhood and exacerbated by Covid. I was lost in the needs of others with no idea what brought me joy anymore. That was until I picked up a paintbrush and began playing. I gradually found myself again.
