James Jones
James Jones was born in Goulburn, NSW, in 1963. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Philosophy Major) from Macquarie University in 1986 and then again with a Diploma of Art from the National Art School in 1990. In 1994, James was awarded an artist residency at Cite`Internationale des Arts in Paris.
James has exhibited work regularly since 1990 and has had nine solo exhibitions with King Street Gallery since joining the gallery in 2000. His paintings have been included in many prominent Australian prizes, winning the Gruner Art Prize for Landscape Painting Art Gallery of NSW, the Winsor & Newton Australian Art Prize, and the Willoughby Art Prize. He has been included in the NSW Parliament en Plein Air prize and most recently was selected as three times running finalist in the Korea-Australia Arts Foundation award, exhibiting in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
His paintings feature in numerous institutional collections such as the Allens Collection, Macquarie Bank (Sydney & Beijing), The Establishment Hotel, Sydney, News Corporation Australia, Winsor & Newton, UK and many private collections in Australia, Europe, UK, Asia & the US.
James lives on the Northern Beaches of Sydney and works from his studio in Manly Vale. When he is not in his studio, he continues his artistic talents as a scenic artist for the Sydney Theatre Company.
