Katie Thomas
Acrylic, oil stick, cold wax and charcoal
83cm x 83cm
Framed in Raw Ash (FSC Certified)
Painted intuitively, this work is less a depiction of a landscape than an exploration of how a place is held within us. Layers of weathered rock, shifting light and heavy atmosphere emerge through memory and instinct.
Although inspired by Tasmania, it continually drew me back to my homeland of Wales—its rugged terrain, ancient stone and ever-changing weather.
The soft circular form becomes a looking glass or the mind’s eye, inviting us beyond the physical landscape into memory, emotion and imagination. A place weathered by time, quietly enduring, where what is seen and what is remembered begin to merge.
