My Lepidoptera series of two moths and one butterfly captures the delicate beauty and intricate details of these invertebrates. The inspiration for this series comes from the rich diversity of moth and butterfly species found in Africa and their crucial role in maintaining the ecological balance. Through these paintings, I aimed to highlight their significance and the hidden beauty that lies within the smaller aspects of the natural world. The choice to focus on moths and a butterfly allowed me to explore the theme of fragility and resilience within the African environment, showcasing how even |the smallest creatures contribute to the broader ecological tapestry. 2/6/24 Watercolour, with its ability to create soft washes and delicate transitions, was the perfect medium to depict the intricate patterns and ethereal quality of Lepidoptera wings. This medium's transparency and fluidity mirror their delicate nature and the transient beauty of the natural world.
