Soul Gazing - SOLD

This was a special moment I shared with a juvenile chimpanzee from the Kasakela community during my first visit to Gombe National Park, Tanzania in 2018. We sat like this, just gazing at each other, for about five minutes. I kept thinking how incredible it was that he was so calm with me there. Up until this point, the chimpanzees I’d been working with in Nyungwe National Park, Rwanda were only semi-habituated, so they were always a bit wary of me. Being able to share space with chimpanzees like this, where they were completely relaxed, was a new and beautiful experience for me. I’m hoping that by sharing this moment with others, they’ll feel the same awe and wonder I felt at the time, and be inspired to do their bit to help chimpanzees in Burundi and Tanzania thrive.
